Anne Husebekk is physician (MD, specialist in immunology and transfusion medicine) and professor in immunology Professor Husebekk was elected Rector (President) of UiT in 2013, and was re-elected for a second term in 2017. As Rector, she is also Chair of the Board of Governors of the University.
As Rector, Anne Husebekk has placed particular emphasis on fostering interdisciplinary cooperation in research and education, and on identifying collaboration opportunities based on public/private partnerships. Furthermore, Husebekk has a particular interest in stimulating a development that ensures regional dividend from the extraction and processing of the region’s natural resources. Two of the main ways in which universities can contribute to this development are, firstly, by providing public and private sector with a highly qualified work force, and, secondly, by engaging in research that helps promote innovation and entrepreneurship. Rector Husebekk has been a champion for the strengthening of both of these tracks at UiT.
